Different spirits and beings* have their own agendas when it comes to interacting with those currently human. Sometimes these designs involve nonconsensual control in myriad degrees. Possession, intrusive thoughts, energy drainage: these are some of the ways this might be noticed. But it can be much more subtle and can affect even those who don't believe they interact with the spirit world.
